In addition to his performance activities, Christian maintains an active schedule as an educator. As a graduate student, he served as teaching assistant to Lawrence Stomberg at the University of Delaware, and currently serves as primary teaching assistant to Julian Schwarz at Shenandoah Conservatory. He has ample experience with students from beginner to collegiate levels, and brings a breadth of pedagogical experiences and infectious love for the instrument to his teaching. His private students have had success earning positions in various honor groups and collegiate music programs. Hartman also enjoys giving masterclasses, chamber coachings, and clinics for high school and collegiate programs, among others. Most recently, he has given orchestral string masterclasses and clinics at Manchester Valley High School, solo and chamber masterclasses at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and coachings at Shenandoah Conservatory's Strings Day. In November 2024, he joined the faculty of the Community Music School of the Piedmont as instructor of cello.
As a percussionist, Hartman has served as the percussion director and arranger for the Manchester Valley High School marching band since 2017. He also serves on the percussion staff for the Westminster High School marching band. Several of Hartman's students have gone on to march in collegiate and professional groups such as the Mighty Sound of Maryland, the Pride of West Virginia, the Stevenson University Marching Band, and Baltimore's Marching Ravens.
Christian is available for private cello lessons, both in-person and online, and is also available for masterclasses and clinic teaching. Contact for more information.

"Christian has been a wonderful cello teacher for my daughter. He has helped her develop her skills and advanced her abilities greatly. Christian took a positive approach but also pushed her to expand her knowledge by trying things outside her comfort zone. He has always been very supportive and enthusiastic with her which helped keep her motivated to continue to learn and grow."
